I'm here at Blog World 09 in Las Vegas. This year people are talking about the real time web and social media like Facebook, Twitter and how that's changing the world of blogging. Many of the people here are content creators like me and here to learn things like how to make their blogs better or ways to reach a bigger audience. I'm here to listen and learn, but also to share with you by "micro blogging" which mean I'll be sending several short posts over the course of the day to Twitter. I've got my SONY HDR-CX520 Handycam Camera and my trusty Z-Series VAIO and I'll be using Twitter to include everyone in what's happening at this event. If you aren't already, follow @SonyElectronics on Twitter for all those updates. Also take a look at the schedule, if there is something you want to learn, let me know and I will report back!
If you're considering live blogging from an event here are some basic tips:
• Make sure the event location has a solid internet connection. If immediacy is important to you, then invest in a WiFi card so you can connect where ever you are without depending on the venue. Or use your cell phone for mobile posting. (I'll do a more in depth how to on this soon)
• Get the level of gear that's right for you. I'm vlogging with an HD Handycam and with the webcam on my VAIO. Posting video with your laptop is a great option.
• Capturing a speaker or presentation can be a challenge, make sure to sit as close to the presenter as you can. This is also a good practice because the framing of your video is better. Don't be scared! Get right in the action.
• Using a hashtag term for "micro blogging" is important. If you use Twitter, you know what I'm talking about. It's easier for people interested in the topic you are covering to find the content. I'll be using #bwe09 when I post content about BlogWorld to Twitter.
If you see this post and you are at Blog World, please make sure to say hello. Look for more blogging tips from me in the future and if you want to know anything specific about the gear or process, leave me a note and I'll make sure to get back to you.
