I have mixed thoughts about the New York Times story today about how peoples' morning routines now start not with breakfast, but with logging on to their PCs, texting their friends and other assorted techno-tasks.
In essence, breakfast is going broadband.
The article has a couple humorous passages ("network deprivation….also known as sleep….") and how a child's precious security blanket is being replaced by a phone.
Given the fact that I work for a company that continues to drive and embrace new technologies, I can certainly appreciate how tech has become woven into our daily lives. But when it starts affecting human interaction (texting as an "in-house intercom") and giving the family Labradoodle short shrift, well, maybe it's time to pull back just a little and set some parameters.
I know the situation varies for everyone. And I've always been a believer that technology enhances peoples' lives. There is no question it works wonders for my family.
But it'll just have to wait a few minutes in the morning.
